MAYOR PALMIERI ANNOUNCES POTHOLE CAMPAIGN
Second Consecutive Year the Mayor has Directed DPW Personnel and Resources to Focus on Potholes and Street Improvements
Mayor Robert Palmieri today announced that for the second consecutive year he has directed DPW personnel and resources to focus on fixing potholes and improving street conditions in the City. The pothole campaign will begin Monday March 16th and continue until Wednesday April 15th to accommodate green waste pickup.
Last year’s extreme winter weather caused severe damage to roads and infrastructure. Given the fact this winter was worse than last year and in anticipation of similar damage to roads and infrastructure, the City is being proactive in fixing and improving road conditions.
The Engineering Department will continue to monitor all road cuts and work closely with the Mohawk Valley Water Authority (MVWA), National Grid and private contractors to ensure quality road cuts are being conducted.
DPW will also utilize its Hot Box which holds 6 tons of hot asphalt making pothole repairs more efficient and longer lasting (The Mayor and DPW Commissioner Dave Short learned of the Hot Box’s effectiveness when visiting Schenectady).
“For the second year in a row we’ve experienced harsh winter conditions that negatively impact our roads and infrastructure,” Mayor Palmieri said. “Last year’s pothole campaign was successful and in coordination with DPW Commissioner Short we wanted to institute it as early as possible this year.” The Mayor continued, “I encourage residents to call my office to report potholes so DPW can fix them as quickly as possible.”
