UTICA --Utica Mayor Robert M. Palmieri was joined by developers and state officials to announce the start of a major mixed-use project on Hotel Street. Once complete, the project will feature 70 loft-style apartments and ground floor retail space in the Bagg’s Square corridor.

The project is being developed by a team consisting of Lahinch Group, Morrisroe Lynn Development and Hueber-Breuer Construction.

The total renovation will cost nearly $20 million, and work was started last week. Earlier this year, New York State’s Empire State Development announced that the project had been awarded a $3 million through the Restore New York Communities Initiative grant and was previously awarded a $1 million capital grant.

The three buildings to be renovated include 119-137 Hotel St and are row style buildings. The project has received all necessary permits and approvals. Once completed, it will restore this vital, but long-time dormant corridor in Utica’s Downtown.

In total, partners will renovate 87,000 square feet located in the lower historic District and is a connection point to Genesee Street, Mohawk Valley Hospital System, Nexus Center and Harbor Point.

The project is proceeded by several public and private investments in Harbor Point and the Bagg’s Square corridor.

Utica Mayor Robert M. Palmieri said: “The revitalization of Hotel Street is one of the final pieces to a complete and thriving Downtown. Its historical significance, combined with its location make this are rife for a resurgence. The partners involved in this project are some proven commodities and I have no doubt, that Hotel St. will be a prime attraction in the near future.”

New York State Senator Joseph Griffo said: "Given its proximity to nearby businesses, attractions and travel corridors, Hotel Street is situated in an ideal location that makes it a prime spot for further development and growth. This project will enhance the City of Utica’s historic Bagg’s Square and downtown neighborhoods, while also supporting other ongoing revitalization efforts taking place in the area."

New York Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon: I am pleased to see the continuous growth in Utica.  The mixed-use project on Hotel Street will further enhance the city’s beauty while maintaining its historical character.  Thank you to all that have made this project a reality.

Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Hope Knight said, “Revitalizing our city centers by helping our municipal partners find creative ways to redevelop and transform neighborhoods, catalyzes new investments to spur growth for the future. This project represents the next phase of the ongoing revival of Downtown Utica.”
