City of Utica Awards $350,000 to 22 Local Businesses Through Commercial Façade Improvement Program
UTICA, NY – Mayor Michael P. Galime in coordination with the Department of Urban and Economic Development, today announced that $350,000 in grant funding has been granted to 22 local Utica businesses through the city’s Commercial Façade Improvement Program.
The funding initiative is designed to revitalize commercial corridors, enhance neighborhood aesthetics, and support small business owners by reimbursing costs for exterior property improvements. Funded projects include masonry repairs, new signage, updated storefront lighting, window and door replacements, and exterior painting.
"Creating a pipeline of support for Utica’s small business economy strengthens our backbone. Investing in their physical presence strengthens our commercial corridors," said Mayor Galime. "This $350,000 allocation directly supports local entrepreneurs who are committed to making Utica more attractive, and frees up capital for businesses to re-invest in the services they provide. I am proud to partner with our Department of Urban and Economic Development to deliver these meaningful resources to our community."
The 22 selected business recipients span various commercial districts across Utica. By leveraging public funding alongside private investment from property owners, the program aims to boost foot traffic, preserve historic building elements, and stimulate local economic growth.
"Enhancing the visual appeal of our business corridors creates a ripple effect throughout the entire city," said Brian Thomas, Commissioner of Urban and Economic Development. "These matching grants allow business owners to make impactful upgrades that strengthen property values and foster community pride."
