MAYOR AND PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENTS JOIN LOCAL AGENCY TO DELIVER BEDS TO CHILDREN

UTICA— Utica Mayor Robert M. Palmieri was joined by members of the Utica Police Department and the Utica Fire Department to deliver beds to children in need. The beds and delivery were courtesy of Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

The not-for-profit-organization joined city officials to make the deliveries on Monday, starting in West Utica.

The Utica chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace was started in August 2021. Since it’s inception the organization has built and delivered more than 500 beds to residents of the City of Utica, according to founder Steve Sperbeck. The beds are handmade by the organization which deploys volunteers to build them.

The City of Utica’s public safety departments are dedicated to community outreach, and the ability to help deliver beds to residents is an effort to build empathy and relationships with Utica residents.

Utica Mayor Robert M. Palmieri said: “Everyone should have a safe, clean, comfortable bed to sleep in. My favorite part of Utica is that we’re such a generous, giving community and Sleep in Heavenly Peace is proving that. The Utica Police and Fire Departments are dedicated to serving our residents and its great to see them helping in other ways as well. We’re a family in the City of Utica and it’s great as a Mayor to watch our family come together for a cause so worthy.”
