MAYOR PALMIERI ANNOUNCES MAJOR PARKING EXPANSION IN BAGG’S SQUARE

To match the excitement and development throughout Bagg’s Square, Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri today announced an over $1 million investment to increase parking capacity and accommodate business growth.

The new parking lot will be located at John and Broad Streets (under the N. Genesee Street bridge). The project will add 130 public parking spaces and will consist of 26 lights (LED & Dark Sky complaint), asphalt paving, drainage, granite curbing, new sidewalks and hydroseeding.

The city secured funding for the project through the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY). The parking lot is projected to be completed in November.

Mayor Palmieri stated, “Due to the investment and vision of many small business owners, Bagg’s Square, and the downtown corridor, have seen remarkable transformation over the past decade.”

Mayor Palmieri continued, “Government must listen to the concerns and needs of its business owners. In speaking with business owners throughout Bagg’s Square, the number one issue they raised was available parking. I’m pleased the city, in working with its partners, is able to greatly expand available parking in this area.”
