Sports Clinics & Programs

All summer programs are free to city children. For registration or additional questions, call the Youth Bureau at 223-4320.

Youth Olympics/Triathlon

When: Thursday, July 10th 2008

Where: Proctor Park

Time: 9am-1pm

Featuring: The Bank of America's Sponsored Relay Race and 1st Annual Youth Triathlon!

Games include: Hot Shot Basketball, Soccer Shoot-Out, Jump Rope, Kickball, Dodge Ball, Homerun Derby, Flag Football, Connect Four, Checkers, and a 40 Yard Dash.

The Youth Olympics are free to all city children. All participants will have to complete two events to receive an official Boilermaker/Bank of America Olympics t-shirt. Participants must complete four events to participate in the raffle for an MP3 player. Refreshments, including hot dogs, chips, soda, and freeze pops will be given away to participants!!!

The first annual Youth Triathlon will include 3 Stages. Stage 1 is a two lap swim at Buckley Pool, Stage 2 is bicycling at Proctor Park for .75 miles, and Stage 3 is a .88 mile run at Proctor Park. Children must be between 10 and 13 years of age. Pre-registration is required; Cut off is June 30th. Medals will be awarded!

 

High School Basketball                 
Parkway Rec. Center & Proctor High School ( High School Teams only )
Monday thru Friday ( 5:00pm to 9:00pm )       
Program begins June 30 and ends August 22. To be eligible, you must be a Junior Varsity or Varsity Player. Contact the Youth Bureau for more information.

Speed/Track and Field Camp ( Grades 7-12 )            
This camp will take place Mondays-Thursdays at Proctor High School Stadium from 4:30-6:00PM on the following dates: July 7th-10th, July 14th-17th, and July 21st-24th.

 Speed Camp will be led by Ralph Lupia, former Proctor High School track coach.

Baseball/Softball

Five 1-week sessions Monday through Friday. Each week the camp will relocate to different parks in the city. Registration must occur one week prior to the session. Call the Youth Bureau or sign up at the Park where the session is underway. Children must be 6-14 years of age. The clinic will be run by Rick Siriano, who attended the University of Louisville, a Division I college. He was also the 9th round pick for the Atlanta Braves.

Football

Five 3 day sessions Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Each week the camp will relocate to different parks in the city. Call the Youth Bureau or sign up at the Park where the session is underway. Children must be 6-14 years of age. The clinic will be led by Phil Puleo, a former Proctor High School student and a current Utica City School District teacher.

Basketball

This camp has five 1-week sessions. Each week the camp will relocate to different parks in the city. Children must register one week prior to the session. Call the Youth Bureau or go to the park where the session is underway for registration. Children must be 6-14 years of age. The clinic will be led by Tom Torchia, who is the current asst. coach for MVCC girls basketball.

Tennis

Tennis has five 1-week sessions. All sessions will take place at Mott Tennis Courts on the Parkway. Children must be 6-14 years of age. Register at the tennis courts or call the Youth Bureau one week prior to the session.

Golf

The golf clinic will be held at Valley View Golf Course, led by Joe Leo and Norm Pensaro. Call the Youth Bureau for dates and times and to register. Children must be 6-14 years of age.

Boxing

Boxing will have five 1-week sessions. Each week the camp will relocate to different parks in the city.To register, call the Youth Bureau or sign up at the park where the session is underway one week prior to the session. Children must be 6-14 years of age. The clinic will be run by Bernard Grimes. There will be no contact until the end of the program.

Cornhill Softball

For children not playing in little league baseball. Contact the Youth Bureau for more information.

Bowling

Bowling takes place at Pin-O-Rama on Mondays and Fridays from 10am-12pm from July 4th-August 22nd. Call the Youth Bureau for more information.

Soccer

Soccer takes place Mondays-Wednesdays from 10am-12pm at Proctor Park. Call the Youth Bureau for more information.

Lacrosse

The Lacrosse Clinic will start June 30th. The Clinic is led by Lemoyne College student, Joe Burke. For more information and registration, call the Youth Bureau. Children must be 6-14 years of age.

Summer Reading and Tutoring

Summer tutoring is held through the Volunteer Center of the Mohawk Valley, Monday through Friday, times to be arranged. Please contact Barbara Klein at 735-4463 for more information.

Summer Drop in @ Kernan

Call Geneva Rhodes @ 792-2205 for more information. Sponsored by Safe Schools & Catholic Charities. Mondays-Thursdays 1-4. Activities include: Arts & Crafts, Board Games, Sports Activities, Guest Speakers. All participants receive a snack!
