12/10/09 - Still thinking about that home? Call the Mayor!

Roefaro extends support for residents navigating the new home buyer tax credit initiative, invites Uticans to still call upon him

Feds extend program to April 30th 2010, and so does mayor

December 12, 2009- (Utica, NY)This June, Utica Mayor David Roefaro stood with one local family on Pinnacle Drive who called his office asking for help securing the first time Home Buyer Tax Credit opportunity.

At that news conference, the mayor said, “When Frank and his girlfriend were looking to purchase their first home; they called our office asking for information about getting the tax credit. We not only were going to make sure they understood how to get it, pointing them in the right direction, but we made sure they new exactly what to do to access the credit. Our office became the link between the Federal Government and the average Utican.”

Well today, thanks to a six-month extension of the program, Mayor Roefaro wants to continue being the link between the federal government and the everyday Utican.

The Mayor is dedicating the following phone number to his outreach efforts: 315-792-0101

Residents with questions about the tax credit can call the mayor’s office and get the facts they need about the extension and what it means for them.

In the meantime, here are some quick facts for people to know about the extended Home Buyer Tax Credit:

·        The credit can be secured by any first time home buyer, OR any person who has not owned a home within the last three years.

·        The tax credit is equal to 10% of the home's purchase price, up to a maximum of $8,000.

  •   The Mayor’s office can help with those facts, help in navigating    the paperwork, and if you don't have an accountant, or a realtor, call the Mayor’s office.

  • Mayor Roefaro will also meet with any resident who needs help.

Back in June, Frank DiBrango said, "I called the Mayor's office asking for some help. I had heard about the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit, but I wasn't too sure on how to access it, on how to get the money myself," First Time Home Buyer, Frank DiBrango said. "The Mayor really reached out to me, helped me align everything, and now I've got my check for $8,000 and a brand new home. I'm a homeowner."

Mayor Roefaro said he hopes more Uticans will take advantage of the tax credit, and his office’s assistance in securing it.

"We've got to put an end to the renting cycle in this city. It is only through homeownership that we provide people with a stake in their community. I'm using this tax credit, and my offer to help people with questions, as a way to let citizens know- Now is the time to buy in Utica," the mayor said.
