11/30/09 - Mayor's Downtown Stroll

         Downtown's Christmas Stroll

Mayor Roefaro has been dedicating a huge effort into making Downtown look festive this holiday season. The mayor plans to decorate Downtown again this year, showcasing new decorations, and of course, a city tree. And just like last year, Mayor Roefaro and his wife, Cindy, will be sponsoring a Downtown Christmas stroll. Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente will also lend a hand.

Mayor Roefaro has called upon Santa to arrive at City Hall on December 13th at 5:00 to mingle with the children and take pictures. Santa will also have gifts for them. But first, at 4:30pm, there will be a parade starting near Lafayette Street and heading North on Genesee Street, ending at Hanna Park. There will also be a cash prize for the best float in the parade.

Later, the mayor and Tony Picente will pull the magic switch and light the City Christmas Tree. Then, children can gather around a surprise Christmas movie in City Hall, and listen to music by Rome and Utica choirs.

Chestnuts will be roasting on an open fire, and Jack Frost will surely be nipping at your nose. But don't worry, because all the hot cocoa that will be available during the sleigh rides will warm you up for sure! Bring the kids, and Grandma & Grandpa too, for the Mayor's Downtown Christmas Stroll.
