11/04/09 - Mayors lowering the cost of prescriptions

Mayors’ prescription plan will save residents between 5% and 40% on prescription drugs

November 4, 2009 – (Utica, NY) - City of Utica Mayor David Roefaro and Village of New York Mills Mayor Robert Maciol announced today that they have sought the rights to a national prescription savings program for Utica and New York Mills residents. The mayors’ effort marks the first of its kind prescription drug savings program in Oneida County.

The program, paid for by Envision Medical Solutions will be offered at no cost to Utica and New York Mills taxpayers.

Roefaro and Maciol announced that under the program, residents of their City and Village can pick up their Envision prescription drug discount card in the New York Mills Municipal Building and in the Village's Library. In addition, a group of volunteers will begin a door to door delivery throughout the village. For Utica, residents can come into the Clerk’s office of City Hall, the Utica Public Library, or any of the city’s senior centers. They will also be mailed out in water bills.

Roefaro and Maciol partnered in brining the program to Oneida County.

“This program will provide discounts on all pharmaceutical medications and will be open to all interested individuals with no age, income or other eligibility restrictions,” Mayor Maciol said. “This is going to save New York Mills residents real dollars, and in this economy, those dollars will add up.”

Mayor Roefaro also noted that the prescriptions cards he and Maciol brought to Oneida County tell another story, “We still have a long way to go before all Americans possess fair, equal, and quality health care, but I hope this card makes it easier for Uticans to buy prescriptions without having to make the difficult decision between buying medicine they need and feeding their family,” Mayor Roefaro said.

The prescription savings card may be used anytime a prescription is or is not covered by insurance. It can even be used towards pet medication. It will save users between 5% and 40% at the Pharmacy.
