Project "May I" has its own hotline, Roefaro urges residents to complain

April 6, 2009- (Utica, NY) In his second State of the City address, titled, "Going Forward Together", Utica Mayor David Roefaro announced, among several initiatives and priorities, that the month of May would be 'clean and green' for city residents, through what the Mayor is calling project "May I".

Project "May I", asks Uticans one simple question: May I help you? In his address, Roefaro said, "From now, until May 1, 2009, call me, write me, or email me at mayor@cityofutica.com and help me to compile the list of the properties or streets you want to make green again, and during the month of May, we will address every problem and every concern you have before the summer even begins. This summer will be clean, green, and seen as an example for rebuilding our civic infrastructure, one wrapper at a time."

Well, Project "May I" has only received about a dozen calls since Roefaro's Tuesday address. Roefaro thinks that's due in part to codes and the DPW having their own, separate offices, and residents not referencing project "May I", but he wants to affirm to residents that getting their litter, debris, and bad neighbor complaints on the "May I" list will fast-track them through the general codes and DPW process, a process that normally deals with several complex codes, and varying DPW issues.

To fast-track your "May I" request Roefaro has created the "May I Hotline", which will be in service from today, until May 1, 2009, when his initiative will be underway and enforced. The "May I Hotline" explains what to do. Residents just need to follow the directions.

"On May 1, 2009, I will be hitting the streets with my codes and DPW department ridding this city of litter, graffiti, and other nuisances residents might feel are too trivial to call about. "May I" was created for the clean and responsible residents City Hall serves, and I want them to call me," the Mayor said.

To add your request onto the list, call Mayor Roefaro's "May I Hotline" at 315.269.3109. Leave a detailed message and a number for Mayor Roefaro to follow up with you at.

*The "May I Hotline" does not replace the general codes department, their 792.0163 number, or their daily codes efforts.

*The "May I Hotline" does not replace the general DPW department, their 738.1341 number, or their daily public works efforts.

*The "May I Hotline" is temporary and focused on litter, graffiti, and remedying bad neighbors who think your neighborhood is a garbage dump.
