City of Utica, New York
7/02/08 - Roefaro: PAVE(ing) the way

Questions:

Angelo Roefaro, Public Relations

July 2, 2008 (Utica, NY) – That's right! Residents of Booth Street, Elmdale

Ave, and Mapledale Ave will be getting their streets paved beginning Monday,

July 7, 2008.

The week after that, July 14, 2008, residents of Square Street, Conkling Ave,

Crouse Street, Albany Street, Nob Road, and Craig Ave are scheduled for

new paving.

These ten projects, during the first two weeks of July, will begin the City of

Utica's summer paving projects. Mayor Roefaro has allocated $2 million

dollars for paving this year, which will cover the costs of the aforementioned

projects, along with 29 others.

Roefaro said, "We'll be paving 39 streets this summer. That's a good

amount considering the price of oil."

It's important to note, the number one ingredient in the materials used for

street paving is oil. The recent surge in oil prices nation wide is affecting

several municipalities, not just Utica. Nevertheless, the City of Utica is taking

the necessary measures to ensure that streets are paved, and that the quality

of that paving will sustain itself.
